Dental Depot's Training Sterilisation Night: What You Missed

Dental Depot’s Training Sterilisation Night: What You Missed
November 13, 2018 Vividus Admin

We have mentioned before how important Continual Professional Development (CPD) is in any medical practice, and isn’t one of those mandatory requirements that just needs to be done once and never thought of again. It is important to continually educate yourself and your employees on the new equipment and laws involved in the medical industry, not only to improve your skills and knowledge but to also get ahead of competitor practices.

The more skills you and your employees acquire, the better the services your practice can provide. We see CPD as an investment in your career, that is why on Wednesday October 24th we held our very own Training Sterilisation Night in conjunction with Adec and W&H. If you were unable to attend, here is a wrap up of what you missed.

It was an incredible turnout with over 40 people attending the informative evening held at the Adec showroom in Herston, to learn more on processing instruments, sterilisation, and tracking their dental practice. The night featured a number of exclusive presenters including, Miele Australia Business Manager, Mr Gary Williams, W&H expert in instrument processing and the relationship to standards, Mr Chris Jobson, and Queensland Adec Territory Manager, James Rosborough.

The main focus of the night was on the importance of sterilisation. Sterilisation is important in any dental practice as it a) reduces the risk of contamination on surgical apparatus, b) minimises the growth of organisms on culture medium, c) controls diseases by killing deadly bacteria, fungi and viruses, and d) minimises biological changes on organisms. No one wants to spread any deadly germs when it can be easily prevented if practised right.

Below is a list of some of the many other topics we covered over the evening.

  • Standards AS/NZ4815/4187 and how they impact cleaning and sterilisation
  • Thermal Disinfection
  • The Cleaning Cycle
  • Responsibility for Sterilisation
  • Resources
  • Cleaning
  • MIFU
  • Loading the Steriliser
  • What is Steam Sterilisation
  • Performance Testing
  • Validation
  • Instrument tracking and batch controls.

Overall it was a fantastic, informative evening enjoyed by all. If you were unable to attend our sterilisation training night this time, don’t fret! We host training nights regularly so be sure to keep an eye out on our Facebook page for information on the next Dental Depot training night.
